The Pyramids Casino is most certainly the most impressive looking venue in all of Uganda. While every other casino in the country is housed in rather ordinary-looking buildings, Pyramids has channelled its inner Vegas and gone full-out, with its main building consisting of a sphinx and two pyramids. The view is stunning, especially during the night when the entire structure is illuminated by yellow projectors, giving them that fancy Egyptian look that we all know from movies and pictures. But let’s not judge a book by its cover and peek a bit deeper under the hood, shall we?

Pyramids is a sister casino of Kampala Casino – the first Ugandan casino ever – and was designed specifically to be a high-class, prestigious venue that would attract a special kind of clientèle. The casino building is in pristine condition, with brand new tables, leather-clad chairs and numerous high-quality slots. The games that are offered are pretty much the same as the ones in Kampala – roulette, blackjack, pontoon and others, though obviously some of them have higher bet limits than in Pyramids’ sister. In addition, the casino also organizes regular poker tournaments twice a week, which I hear are a true spectacle. Overall, while there are more table games in other casinos (such as Mayfair), Pyramids still offers more than enough to keep anyone satisfied.

Keeping with its high standards, the casino also comes with its own restaurant which, despite its small size, offers absolutely superb food that anyone will enjoy. The dishes offered are mostly from the African cuisine, but there’s plenty of European ones thrown in for those who prefer them. You’re free to pick anything from an express lunch to a complete three-course dinner – the choice is yours. And, just like in Kampala, there are bands playing in the restaurant every week. What’s not to like? Overall, Pyramids is a fantastic choice for when you’re feeling a bit more fancy. It’s not exactly exclusive to billionaires, as the prices are actually rather acceptable even for people whose income is rather average, but its high-class atmosphere might turn some people off.
